The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda (RPFAB) hosted an award ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate seven officers who have each dedicated 40 years of their lives to law enforcement.

The event marked a significant milestone in the careers of Assistant Commissioner Clifton Cabral, Assistant Superintendent Brenda Jacobs, Assistant Superintendent James Tonge, Inspector Adonis Henry, Inspector Norman Parillon, and Sergeant Nigel Browne.

Distinguished guests at the ceremony included Governor General Sir Rodney Williams and Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin, where the honorees were celebrated not just for their tenure but the commitment the officers demonstrated since the mid-1980s.

In his keynote address, Commissioner Rodney lauded the officers’ dedication to law enforcement. He emphasised the significance of the number 40. “The number 40 continues to play a significant role in the life of human beings and institutions. The number represents maturity and fulfillment of a milestone. From Biblical times to modern days, the number shows a special accomplishment.”

The Commissioner acknowledged that the journey for these officers has not always been smooth sailing. However, he praised their resilience and dedication, noting that each officer had persevered through challenges and changes within the force over four decades. “The journey may not have been easy,” Commissioner Rodney remarked, “but each one of you has persevered and is celebrated for your achievement.”

The ceremony was also designed to highlight the evolution of law enforcement since the officers first joined the force. Through technology, social dynamics, and security challenges, the veterans have adapted and have been able to continue serving their communities with distinction.

Looking toward the future, Commissioner Rodney charged the officers with a special responsibility. “Use your experience to inspire others to greatness,” he said, urging them to be mentors to younger officers in the force. He encouraged them to remain positive influences within the organization, despite past challenges or unmet aspirations.

The meritorious awards presented during the ceremony recognized not only the officers’ longevity of service but also their continued potential to contribute to law enforcement. “Each one of you still has the potential to make significant contributions to your individual life, your family, the police force, and the nation of Antigua and Barbuda,” Rodney assured the honorees.

The RPFAB has made it a tradition to recognize officers who reach this significant milestone, setting aside a special day each year to honor those who complete four decades of service. This tradition serves not only to acknowledge the dedicated service of the veterans but to also inspire younger members of the force.

At the conclusion, the commissioner offered a final blessing to the officers: “May God grant you good health and clear vision as you continue to serve the nation of Antigua and Barbuda in this noble organization.”
