Serena Williams, 21-time Grand Slam winner, UNICEF International Goodwill Ambassador, business lady, and all around badass.
Last year, she inspired us with her acceptance speech for Sports Illustrated‘s 2015 Sportsperson of the Year award—the first time in over 30 years the award went to one single woman—and she’s at it again on Instagram.
The star posted a double selfie on Instagram today, showing off her toned arms alongside the muscle emoji.
She powerfully typed over the pic “Strong is beautiful,” with a red arrow pointing directly to her guns so we know exactly what she’s talking about.
The phrase “Strong is Beautiful” was the slogan for a Women’s Tennis Association’s 2012 ad campaign featuring the star, but Williams has definitely embraced it on her own. She often hashtags her pics with the phrase—like this snap of her doing the splits mid-air like a boss—and the sports champ is an inspiring reminder to women that they can be strong and beautiful at the same time. She spoke to this in her Sports Illustrated acceptance speech in December.
“I’ve had people look past me because of the color of my skin. I’ve had people overlook me because I was a woman. I’ve had critics say I [would] never win another Grand Slam when I was only at number seven—and here I stand today with 21 Grand Slam titles, and I’m still going.”
The post comes after Williams lost the Miami Open on Monday, but it’s clear she’s not letting it get to her. Serena, you inspire us everyday. Strong is oh-so beautiful.
