SAP return to winning ways as they keep promotion hopes alive

SAP Football Club returned to their winning ways in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) First Division on Thursday, slipping by Police FC 2-0 to move fourth in the standings with 28 points after 14 showings.

Rick Gordon and Tyrique Tonge each scored once in the winning cause, netting in minutes 29 and 51 respectively. Police remain on 11 points from 14 outings and third from bottom. The win was SAP’s first, following back-to-back defeats and a drawn contest.

There was victory as well for Blue Jays as they defeated Willikies 1-0. National youth striker Keon Greene scored the lone goal of the contest when he hit the back of the net in minute 37. The victory, their eighth of the competition, lifts Blue Jays to 25 points from 13 outings and fifth in the standings. Willikies are seventh in the standings with 18 points.

There was victory as well for John Hughes as they beat Westham 1-0 in the First Division. Terence Thompson found the back of the net in the 14th minute to push his team to 17 points and into the eighth position.

Meanwhile, in the Second Division, Earthquakes chalked up their fifth victory of the competition when they defeated Belmont FC 2-0. Rakeem Campbell and Arnold James were on target for the victors as they move to 20 points and sixth in the 13-team Zone A standings. Belmont are third from bottom with 11 points.

In the other Second Division contest, Daryl Massicott scored in minute 65 as Jennings United beat CPTSA Wings 1-0.
