Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa brought home the award in the Rising Star category at the recently held annual Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority Awards.
Tammica Mendoza from the resort’s food and beverage department edged out five other nominees in her category to win the prestigious award.
Mendoza, who is a trailblazer in her department, has had a phenomenal year celebrating many victories within her hospitality career. Not only has she been nominated for several Sandals Prestige Awards this year, but she was also the winner of the Sandals General Manager’s (Pacesetter) Prestige Award for 2022.
Glowing at the recent addition of awards under her belt, Mendoza shared that she is humbled and grateful for her accomplishments. “It truly is a blessing and honour to have been nominated by Sandals and to come out triumphant on a national level. It means that I am doing something right, and that is inspiring. I am grateful for the support of my colleagues, friends and family, and I am encouraging my peers to stay focused and committed to their work within the industry. You have to love it and your passion will always shine through,” she said.
Celebrating her win was an elated David Latchimy, General Manager of Sandals Grande Antigua, “I am very happy for Tammica and her win this evening. She made our resort proud, and it says something about her career trajectory, as her best is yet to come. To the other Sandals nominees Juleen Rose, Celia Harrigan, Samantha Grigg, David Hodge and Valyn Grannum – we are immensely proud of you. Our team is among the world’s best, and we are grateful to see them rise and be recognized on a national level.”
The Tourism Awards are hosted annually as part of the island’s tourism week and seek to recognize the top hospitality performers across several categories nationally.
