Sandals recorded a much needed win on Saturday night by edging out Graphic Impact Shooters 48-46 in the feature encounter of the Cool and Smooth Business League Basketball.
Playing at the JSC Sports Complex, the victors, who were led by Kenya Achom with 19 points, moved into the third position on the 14-team table with a 10-2 record.
Achom was assisted by Selassie Brathwaite who netted 12 while, for Shooters, Tavarus Benta was the lone scorer in double digits with 17 points.
This loss now puts Shooters’ in fifth place with an 8-4 record.
In the other games played that night, defending champions Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board suffered their third loss of the season, falling to Anjo Wholesale by 16 points.
The 66-50 affair saw Cohen Desouza lead the way with 16 points for the victors with assistance from Xavier ‘Xman’ Meade with 13.
Ishan Peets netted 16 for Transport Board. Teammate, Marlon ‘Buju’ Charles contributed scoring 10.
Anjo remain second in the standings while Transport Board are fourth.
Pointe FM recorded the largest win of the night by trouncing Sledge O Ballers 83-36.
Irvin Fernandez led all scoring with a game high 20 points while teammates Josue Hernandez, Jesus Emmanuel, Rolando Hamilton and Khalid Shabazz made 15, 13, 12 and 10 points respectively.
Steadroy ‘Happy’ Graham had 11 points for Ballers and his teammate, Harry Jules made 10 in a losing effort.
Regular season games will wrap up tonight with Sledge O Ballers facing Mill Reef at 6:30, Board of Education playing Anjo Wholesale at 7:30, and Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre battling Transport Board at 8:30.
The playoffs will shoot off on Wednesday and Thursday night with the round of eight. The semi-finals are slated for October 23, while the best of three finals will begin with Game One on October 25.
Both the first round and semi-finals will be played in a knock-out format.
