Sandals celebrate the second title this season becoming Double Champions

In a fitting conclusion to their dominant 2024 campaign, Sandals secured both the regular season and playoff championships in the Cool & Smooth ABBA Business Basketball League, defeating Richie’s Shooterz 65-50 in Game 3 of the finals to clinch the series 2-1.

The decisive Game 3, played on Saturday evening, showcased Sandals’ depth and talent. League MVP Keroi ‘Dragon’ Lee led all scorers with 19 points, supported by strong performances from Adissa Harris (13 points) and John Rolland (12 points). Despite a matching 19-point effort from Cohen Desouza and 10 points from Tavarus Benta for Richie’s Shooterz, Sandals’ balanced attack proved too much to overcome.

Sandals’ exceptional season was recognized with multiple awards as they were named League Champions and Playoff Champions. Lee won the League and Playoff, Co-Coaches of the Year were awarded Stanley Carter and Andy Anthony while their supports won Best Crowd Support and Kayana Clayton received the award for Outstanding Medical Support.

The league showcased remarkable individual performances throughout the season as Lincoln Weekes (Lava Smoke Shop) was leading scorer with 310 points. Steven Matthew (Anjo Wholesale) held the most points in a single game with 60 points. Lincoln Weekes held the record for most three pointers in a game (15). Michael Barton (Lava Smoke Shop) was Rebounding and Blocks Leader with 209 rebounds and 35 blocks. Benta also had the Assists Leader award with 55 assists while the Steals Leader was Akeem Davis with 59.

The Spirit of the Game Award went to Thomas ‘Jatee’ Skerritt of Christos Supermarket United, while Antigua Power Company earned recognition as the Most Disciplined Team.

Cohen Desouza of Richie’s Shooterz was named Most Exciting Player, adding flair and entertainment to the competitive season.

This comprehensive success of the 2024 season, highlighted by Sandals’ championship run and numerous individual achievements, has set a new standard for business league basketball in Antigua and Barbuda.
