Despite his unavailability to play this season for Texas Christian University, Kevin “Loopy” Samuel remains positive.
“No, I won’t be playing this season but I am still making progress each and every day on and off the court, so I’m not complaining and I am focusing on getting my body right, learning the system and trusting the process.”
Samuel who returned home on Thursday from the USA, did not reveal why he will not represent the university this year but spoke on adjusting to college life and how the tragedy in Barbuda impacted him.
“Anyone attending college would tell you that it’s a totally different experience but it hasn’t been hard for me because I went to high school in Texas.
“I remember worrying because I couldn’t hear from family or friends for days but I tried to remain positive by telling myself they were safe.”
He then commented on the reason behind his return and spoke on the role he now plays for all Barbudans.
“It’s Thanksgiving holiday so I took the opportunity to come and see my family and friends especially since I haven’t seen them since before the hurricane.”
“Even before committing to TCU, I knew I had a role to play as an ambassador for Barbuda but now it’s even more definite. I am now one of those persons they look up to and I pledge to make them proud.”
“I’m really just glad to be home and to help out in any way I can.”
The number 11 ranked Centre despite not playing this season in the Big 12 Conference indicated that he still would not be available to play for the national team, the Bulldogs, in the Caribbean Basketball Championships tournament slated for June of 2018.
“The preparation time for the tournament would clash with college so although I would be interested, time is just the biggest issue.
“I wish them the best of luck of course.”
Samuel who returns to Texas on Saturday committed to Texas Christian University after receiving a number of offers from top universities such as Baylor University and Texas A & M.
