Salient fact: You were once a fetus!

The ASPIRE group, by carefully chosen words, would beguile the general public into thinking that their quest for abortion on demand is an innocuous, even benign, exercise.

It is anything but.

Let us consider a simple biological truth: life cannot be generated from non-life. That is to say, if an embryo, or nine weeks later, a fetus is not a de facto unborn human person, at no subsequent stage can it become one. And you don’t have to be an Einstein to understand that. Human life, once conceived, is a continuum from fertilization to birth, to eventual death, to complete the divinely established cycle of life.

There is therefore no point at which a fetus can be classified as non-human and dispensable, so no one has the legal, judicial or moral discretion to terminate its existence.

But we have to be pragmatic and reasonable. Legitimate arguments for interrupting this cycle of life can be, and have been made, with some justification.

Should a woman be forced to carry a child to full term in the case of rape or incest?

Should a woman be obliged to continue a pregnancy that may result in her death?

Should a woman be compelled by any law to complete the gestation period when it is known that the fetus is non-viable?

These are legitimate concerns that can and should be resolved by amendments to our present abortion laws.

But as scientific data show clearly, these occurrences account for an insignificant percentage of cases. The vast majority of abortion cases, some 95.7 %, are performed simply because the pregnancy is unwanted for a variety of reasons, having little or nothing to do with rape, incest, threat to the mother’s life or poor condition of the fetus.

Is it too much to ask that ASPIRE acknowledge the truth about what they are really seeking from our courts? Their arguments to date have been an outright insult to the intelligence of the general public and they need to restate their position, with some regard for the biological truths stated previously.

Can they rise to the occasion, or will they persist in obfuscating the plain truth?

Remember, each of us was once a fetus and, thanks be to God, we were not aborted!
