The Antigua and Barbuda Sailing Week activities have been cancelled for 2020.

A release from the Antigua Sailing Week Committee states: “As a result of national and global measures being taken to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and the priority being the health and safety of our citizens, competitors, spectators and volunteers, the decision to cancel Antigua Sailing Week is the only viable option.”

The release went on to thank all persons who have supported the event and worked diligently behind the scenes towards “creating what was to be a remarkable edition”.

The chairperson of the Antigua Sailing Week Committee, Alison Sly-Adams said they will be concentrating their efforts towards building next year’s event.

“Now, more than ever, we are committed to building on this unfortunate turn of events for a phenomenal 2021 event,” she stated.

All registered participants with a vessel in the region and who are in need of advice for onward logistics are being advised to contact the committee as soon as possible.

Sly-Adams stated that the committee will be reaching out to registered participants, sponsors, and the Antigua Sailing Week team over the next week.

The release is urging all participants to stay safe, follow government’s health directives, and do everything in their power to reduce the risk of infection.
