The operational capabilities of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda (RPFAB) have been enhanced through the donation of a number of computers, courtesy of the Auratus Consulting Company.
During the handing over ceremony on Monday, Nigel Pigott of the Auratus Consulting Company, expressed delight in being able to continue the longstanding partnership with the police force through the donation.
“This specific donation, it was brought to my attention by one of the departments of the police station that they could use a few more PCs, and so we went a little above what we had promised and we’ve imported a few PCs that will hopefully help them in the taking part of their duties.
“Any charitable work we can do that makes sense, that is beneficial, that helps the different entities or people or private people that need some assistance — because everybody needs a little help every now and then and moving forward, we’ll always find a way to give back,” Pigott said.
The computers, which the police said will go a long way in enabling it to effectively carry out its everyday functions, are primarily for use by the Professional Standards Department, which handles public complaints and internal affairs.
Commissioner of Police Atlee Rodney, one of several high-ranking officers at the ceremony, said the RPFAB has been striving to make use of technological advances by embracing technology to enhance its performance.

“One of the departments within the police force that does not get the limelight — because they work behind the scene — is the Office of Professional Standards and they have been clamoring and asking for the technology to assist them in the work that they do.
“They are needed tools within the Office of Professional Standards and other departments all in an effort to enhance our efficiency and our service to the people of Antigua and Barbuda,” Commissioner Rodney said.
He also noted that he is looking forward to the continued partnership with the company as the police seek to make Antigua and Barbuda “a safe place to live, safe place to invest and a safe place to just enjoy life”.
Head of the Professional Standards Department, Assistant Superintendent Canute Mitchel said the department was in dire need of computers and laptops in order to make the job of the office easier.
“I can assure you that it will. As long as I’m in charge of Professional Standards, we are going to take the very best care of these machines because we know how important it is, especially for our department. So once again on behalf of the Commissioner of Police and other ranks and more so the staff members at Professional Standards we want to thank you very much for considering us for this gesture,” Assistant Superintendent Mitchel said.
Commissioner Rodney said the new equipment will assist in modernising police operations and improve the department’s ability to handle both public complaints and internal matters efficiently.
