Hours after arriving in Antigua and Barbuda and visiting Government House, the royal couple, Prince Edward and Sophie, met with several of the country’s top sporting officials and athletes, past and present, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
The Wessexes were greeted by three of the country’s four cricketing knights, Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Curtly Ambrose and Sir Richie Richardson and were gifted with an autographed cricket bat. Sir Andy Roberts was not present as he is in Guyana.
Prince Edward and Sophie also got the opportunity to meet top athletes like the Seaforth twins, Melissa and Michelle, and Kimberly Percival from the bodybuilding fraternity, as well as a few of the recent Carifta Games medallists including sprinter Dwayne Fleming and swimmer Ethan Stubbs-Green.
Officials from the Basketball Association, the Cricket Association and the Athletics Association also greeted the royals, sharing updates on the progress that their respective bodies are making.
The affair was filled with smiles, laughter and a few jokes as the royals breezed through the grounds, before continuing on their whirlwind tour of Antigua and Barbuda.
