A man suspected of involvement in a recent armed robbery has been hospitalised following a violent incident in Villa on Sunday night.
Initially, the suspect reported being shot, but a medical examination revealed he had no gunshot wounds.
Instead, doctors found injuries consistent with an assault with a blunt instrument.
The police have confirmed that the man is currently at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre receiving treatment for those injuries.
The incident took place when the suspect was reportedly attacked by a group of masked individuals in Villa.
The motive behind this assault remains unclear, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
However, the injured man is a person of interest in connection with a robbery that occurred earlier this month at the Pearl River Supermarket in Villa.
During that incident, an armed robbery resulted in a police officer having his service weapon stolen.
Law enforcement sources indicate that charges related to the supermarket robbery could be filed against the patient in the coming days, pending further investigation and his recovery.
