Richardson Dominates Tough Sports Class while Mack and Choy Claim Elite Titles In 3-Stage Cycling Event

Cosmos Richardson dominated the Sports Class, the category with the highest numbers of competitors, to finish atop the pile in the recently held 3-Stage Race put on by the Antigua and Barbuda cycling Federation (ABCF).

Riding for the Vipers Cycling Club, Richardson clocked a total time of three hours, six minutes and 06.89 seconds (3:06:06.89) to finish ahead of the other three competitors in the Sports Class over a total of 13 laps.

The rider clocked 10 minutes and 37 seconds (10:37) to win the opening stage of the event on Saturday morning, an 8.1 miles Individual Time Trial, before going on to win the second phase, a 43.86 miles Criterium also on Saturday in a time of 40 minutes and 54.97 seconds (40:54.97). Both stages were held at the Pan Am Base.  

Richardson then claimed the third and final stage, a 76.8 miles Individual Road Race, in a time of two hours, 14 minutes and 33.93 seconds (2:14:33.93). The road race took riders from the Police Recreation Grounds to the St. James Club and back with the Sports Class riders having to complete two laps.

Marcos Ozuna finished second in the Sports Class with a total time of 3:11:21.76 with Eugene Roberts grabbing bronze in a time of 3:39:19.04. Micah Challenger was fourth in a time of 53:51.29. Challenger did not compete in the road race.

Meanwhile, Newell Mack and Telesha Choy were crowned winners in the Elite Male and Elite Female categories after both were the lone competitors in their respective categories. Mack registered a total time 4:24:34.00 while Choy clocked 13:03.97. She did not compete in the second and third stages of the race.

There was action as well in the Master Class with Micah Gore and Neil Lloyd the only two competitors on show. Gore had a time of 4:06:52.67 to take the gold medal while Lloyd clocked 4:20:48.08 in second. Both competed in all three stages of the race.

The Junior Male category was dominated by Tahje Browne in an overall time of 3:54:45.33. Browne finished some distance ahead of his Wadadli Cycling Academy teammate Jahiem Telemaque who was second in a time of 4:43:50.02. Another Wadadli Cycling Academy athlete, Jayonte Joseph was third in a time of 4:49:19.54.

In the Cadets 14-17 category, Jomari King claimed the gold medal in a time of 1:56:19.82 riding for Vipers. Aiden Tonge of the East Side Raiders clocked a total time of 2:15:26.05 to finish second in the two-man race.

Elite Thomas of Road Runners Cycling was the only rider in the Cadets 11-13 category, clocking an overall time of 1:05:28.12.
