Residents living in the St John’s Rural East Constituency have begun a Home and Neighborhood Crime Prevention and Safety initiative.
The first public forum was held on March 14, at the Clare Hall Secondary School, to sensitize community residents of matters pertaining to crime and its prevention.
It was organized under the theme “Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself”.
Several guest speakers delivered presentations on primary and secondary crime and safety issues within the community and the formation of neighborhood watch groups to help in the prevention of home invasions.
Guest speakers included Marvin Fiedtkou, Deputy Supervisor and Public Relations Officer, Ickford Thomas, Managing Director of Wadadli Eyes Security Firm, Inspector Frankie Thomas and Corporal Karim Warner .
Warner recommended the implementation of discreet strategies that may restrict criminal activities within the community such as installing sensor lights on the exterior of homes and business places and erecting “Neighborhood Watch” signs.
Organiser, Clarence Pilgrim says community intervention programs and strategies will be organized and implemented to reduce the rate of criminal activities within the community.
These programs will be monitored by key persons within the community in partnership with law enforcement personnel.
