As Antiguans and Barbudans are getting ready for the Easter holidays, the head of the Christian Ministries Centre wants residents to remember the real purpose of the celebration.
Senior Pastor Bishop Charlesworth Browne, says the time should be used to reflect on the life of Jesus Christ.
“It reminds us that no matter what may hit us, no matter how hard we may be hit by whatever storms or circumstances of life, our faith tells us that we can rise again…it is a great time to celebrate,” he said.

Easter is one of the most important and oldest festivals of the Christian Church, celebrating the resurrection of Christ and held (in the Western Church) between 21 March and 25 April, on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the northern spring equinox.

It is usually a long weekend from Good Friday to Easter Monday.

In Antigua and Barbuda, many residents go to church on Good Friday and for the entire Easter period, they refrain from consuming meat. On Easter Monday, familiesusually go for picnics at the beaches or kite flying at Devil’s Bridge.
