Cedella Marley has designed a collection of jewellery to commemorate Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz historic World Cup qualification with the profits from sales donated to the team’s world cup preparation.
Known as the Strike Hard Collection, the creation of the pieces is a joint venture with the Jamaican jewellery company, Island Trinketz, reputed to be the fastest growing contemporary sterling silver jeweller in the region.
Founded in 2013, their line of products includes rings, earrings, necklaces, and their signature charm bracelet collection.
The Strike Hard Collection features a bracelet, three charms, and a limited-edition sterling silver bangle. The suggested retail price of the collection ranges from $US40.00 to $US 138.00 and is set to arrive in stores early next month.
This is yet another venture from Bob Marley’s daughter created to help the cash-strapped national senior women’s team.
Previously, Cedella Marley – under her company Cedella Marley Designs – collaborated with athletic brand PUMA to design Jamaica’s uniforms for the 2012 Summer Olympics. She also designed the football kit for Jamaica in 2015. This is her first collaboration with a jewellery company.
Since she was named the women’s football ambassador in 2014, at the invitation of the late Jamaica Football Federation President, Captain Horace Burrell, the internationally known entertainer, author, designer, and CEO of Tuff Gong International, has worked to raise awareness and funds in support of Jamaica’s national women programme.
“I always knew that the players had the talent and the passion it took to make it to the World Cup,” said
Marley. “What they needed were the necessary resources to train and prepare properly.”
Now that the team has qualified, a steady stream of funds is necessary for training camps and international friendlies. “We don’t compete to just qualify, we compete to win,” Marley said.
Island Trinketz was one of the first Jamaican companies to reach out to Cedella about supporting the national team’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup in France. The company is also donating their share of the profits to the team.
“As a Jamaican (and a lover of football) I am extremely proud of what the Reggae Girlz has accomplished so far,” said Raveen Dadlani, the founder and managing director of Island Trinketz. “I believe it is important to not only celebrate them but to also make a contribution as a citizen.”
Marley agreed, “The Jamaica Reggae Girlz are more than a football team, they are a national team representing Jamaica in the most important soccer competition in the world. They deserve our support as a nation.”
