Rare failure for Archer as Sussex struggle

TUNBRIDGE WELLS, England, May 27, CMC – Sussex’ Barbadian star Jofra Archer suffered a rare failure as the visitors found themselves against the ropes after day two of their County Championship clash against Kent here Saturday.
The 22-year-old has been in superb form with the bat but failed to score batting at number 10 as Sussex were dismissed in their first innings for 164 in reply to the hosts’ 369.
Barbados-born England all-rounder Chris Jordan suffered similar fate as he was also dismissed without scoring.
South African David Wiese, at number eight, top-scored with 36 while veteran seamer Darren Stevens took five for 40.
At the close, Kent had reached 116 without loss in their second innings, to extend their overall lead to 321 runs headng into Sunday’s day three at Nevill Ground.
Opener Daniel Bell-Drummond, whose parents are Jamaican, was unbeaten on 68.
Resuming the day on 316 for eight, Kent managed to add valuable runs before seamer Jordan got one of the two wicktes to fall to end the innings.
Archer, an impressive fast bowler, picked up a single wicket on Friday’s opening day.
He has been outstanding this season, so far scoring 223 runs at an average of 55 with two half-centuries while taking 19 wickets at an 27 apiece, along with two five-wicket hauls.
