Rangers pick up crucial win over Scorpions to stay in hunt for Premier Division promotion

Ottos Rangers grabbed a crucial 2-1 victory over Freeman’s Village Scorpions in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) First Division on Monday as they remain in contention for automatic promotion to the body’s top flight.

Josue Arias signalled Rangers’ intentions early on, putting his team ahead in the first minute of play. The visitors drew level 27 minutes later when Millique London struck from close range to send the teams into the break on level terms.

Manuel Emilo Arias stole the contest and secured all three points for Rangers when he struck from close range in the 87th minute.  The win moves Rangers to 27 points at the top of the standings after 11 matches. Scorpion remain on 23 points after 12 showings.

There was victory as well for Bendals FC who easily beat Liberta Blackhawks 2-0 when they met at Bendals. Both goals were scored in the second half with Alva Guishard Jr recording a double, hitting the back of the net in minutes 47 and 49. Bendals move to 13 points after 12 showings while Blackhawks remain second from bottom with three points.

Meanwhile, despite scoring both goals in the match, Bolans had to share points with Swetes FC after their clash ended in a 1-1 draw when they met in Bolans. Joel Martin had put the home team ahead in minute 19 before an own goal by Kerry Aaron gifted Swetes their lone conversion of the clash.

Swetes edge to 21 points from 10 matches and fifth in the standings while Bolans move to 16 points from 12 outings.

Also on Monday, Lion Hill FC and Tryum FC played to a 1-1 draw at Golden Grove. Silence Manyaka put Tryum ahead on minute 37 but a late 83rd minute conversion from O’Neil Browne helped the home team salvage a point.

Tryum move to 13 points from 10 outings while Lion Hill are now on seven points after 11 appearances.
