The first Test match between West Indies and South Africa ended in a draw on Sunday afternoon at Queen’s Park Oval.
The highlight of the game was the outstanding performance by South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj, who was named Player of the Match for his impressive match figures of eight for 164.
The match saw South Africa batting first and posting a solid total of 357 runs. Temba Bavuma led the charge with a patient 86, while Tony de Zorzi contributed 78 runs. For the West Indies, Jomel Warrican was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 wickets.
In response, the West Indies managed 233 runs in their first innings. Debutant Keacy Carty top-scored with 42, while Jason Holder added 36. Keshav Maharaj’s spin bowling proved crucial as he picked up four for 76.
South Africa’s second innings saw them declare at 179 for three, with Tristan Stubbs scoring a quick 68 and Tony de Zorzi adding 45.
The West Indies, chasing a target of 298, reached 201 for five in their second innings when the match was called off. Alick Athanaze (92) and Keacy Carty (31) showed resistance, but Maharaj once again shone with four wickets.
