Progressors stay sharp as Earthquakes boost chances in Second Division

JSC Progressors picked up a crucial 3-1 victory over CPTSA Wings in Zone B of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Second Division on Tuesday, keeping themselves in the hunt for promotion to the First Division.

Moses Galler, Jamie Harris and Alex Browne each scored once as Progressors move to 33 points from 14 matches and level with Green City who also have 33 points. City, however, lead the standings on goal difference.

Jamie Benjamin was the lone scorer for Wings as they remain on 14 points from 15 showings and ninth in the 13 team standings.

Also, Earthquakes boosted their chances of making it to the playoff with a 2-0 win over Young Warriors. Rakeem Campbell opened the scoring in minute 10 before an own-goal from Shamar Jhingoree just one minute later sealed the three points for Earthquakes.

The win lifts Earthquakes to 26 points and fourth in the standings, while Young Warriors remain at the bottom of the standings with one point after 14 showings.

Meanwhile, in a close contest, Jennings United beat Belmont FC 4-3. Rex Christian scored twice for United, netting in minutes 26 and 43 with Terence Thompson and Daryl Anthony each scoring once also in the winning cause.

Belmont was led by Ranjan Looby who scored twice with strikes in the 26th and 43rd minute. Iandre Hodge added a third in minute 80.

United move to 23 points and sixth in the standings while Belmont are third from bottom with 11 points.

In the other match played on Tuesday, Bethesda Bald Eagles beat defeated Tamo FC 3-2.
