Defence Force chiefs are probing the death of a man reportedly seen in the presence of its soldiers shortly before he went missing last week.
Bruce Greenaway’s body was discovered close to the shoreline of Indian Creek on Monday.
Relatives had been searching for the Falmouth man, said to be in his 40s, since last Thursday.
They claimed, in a widely shared social media post, that the last time Greenaway was seen was in the custody of Defence Force soldiers after apparently breaking curfew regulations.
They said they contacted police stations across Antigua, the hospital and the National Office of Disaster Services looking for him.
A statement from the Defence Force said it was taking the allegations “seriously”.
“As such, an internal investigation has commenced,” it added.
A caller to Observer radio’s Voice of the People show yesterday suggested Greenaway – also known as ‘Jungle’ or ‘Yankee’ – was vulnerably housed at the time he was allegedly detained.Police PRO Inspector Frankie Thomas confirmed police were investigating the cause of death.
