Press Release: Thwarted illegal fishing activities in Antigua waters

 St John’s, April 10, 2017:  In a collaboration to tighten the security of Antigua and Barbuda’s maritime borders, the ABDF and US Coast Guards conducted joint patrol over the period 8 – 9 Apr 17, on the Southern coast of Antigua. 
During this collaborative effort two French fishing vessels were apprehended in Antiguan and Barbuda waters for illegal fishing and transshipping of conch respectively.  
An estimated total of 1763.7lbs of conch and 100lbs of fish were confiscated.  The cases are jointly investigated by the ABDF Coast Guard, Customs, immigration and Fisheries departments.  
There are five French fishermen that are assisting the local authorities with their investigations.  The fishermen are likely to be charged for the offences.
