Former OBSERVER Radio on-air personality and entertainer, Ava McKenzie Charles – popular known as “Sassy” – has been transferred from the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) to a medical facility in Trinidad for life-saving specialist treatment.

Yesterday, Sassy’s family members expressed gratitude to Health Minister Molwyn Joseph, the Medical Benefits Scheme and nurses and doctors at MSJMC for assistance given in transferring the ailing mother to Trinidad, and for the care they have provided.

The family also thanked all who contributed to a Go-Fund Me page that was launched to facilitate donations.

McKenzie-Charles took ill several days ago and was rushed to the hospital. After several tests, it was discovered that her organs were failing and her liver stopped working due to a mass which is currently inoperable.

Doctors placed her in an induced coma during her stay at MSJMC.

Last week, family members said around US $33,000 was needed to cover the cost of a specialized operation to save her life, and to pay for air ambulance to Trinidad.
