Young Windies batsman Nicholas Pooran insisted he was just grateful to take the opportunity to showcase his talent, after smashing an impressive half-century against India in the T20 series finale between the teams on Sunday.
The 23-year-old clobbered four 4s and four 6s in a 53-run unbeaten stand, from 25 deliveries, which pushed the regional team to a respectable 181 for 3. In the end, the total was not enough, however, as the host secured a thrilling last-ball win and an overall 3-0 series win.
Underpinned by 92 from opening batsman Shikar Dhawan, the Indians made 182 for 4. Despite a tough loss and difficult series, however, Pooran was satisfied with his maiden T20I half-century.
“That’s cricket I am just trying to grab the opportunities I get. We haven’t had the best of series, our team is mixed with a set of youngsters and every game is an opportunity for one of us to take it,” Pooran said.
“Today I’m happy I was able to take my opportunity. We had nothing left to lose,” he added. (SportsMax)
