Police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the death of a young Jamaican man at His Majesty’s Prison (HMP).
The inmate, 27-year-old Chinlee Robinson, was found unresponsive on his bed early yesterday. Prison Superintendent Trevor Pennyfeather confirmed Robinson’s death but stated it was too early to determine the cause.
He said the matter was in the hands of the police and he was unable to give further details.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Inspector Frankie Thomas — head of the police communications unit (STRATCOM) — said people were being interviewed as investigations into the death continue.
Officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) were called to the scene to conduct investigations.
Robinson was on remand for larceny of a cell phone and had appeared before the St John’s Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to be further remanded pending his trial. While he was expected to secure bail, the process was delayed due to the unavailability of his passport.
A post-mortem would have to be conducted to determine the exact cause of the inmate’s death.
