Law enforcement officers are investigating two separate break-ins at places of worship on Sunday, including a harrowing incident where a pastor narrowly avoided being shot.
The first break-in occurred at the St. John’s Pentecostal Church (SJPC) House of Restoration around 3:30 am.
Two men, described as dark-skinned, one stocky and the other slim, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, and dressed in dark clothing, reportedly ransacked two offices. Police reported that nothing was stolen during the incident although the pastor said the men escaped in his vehicle.
During the altercation, one of the men allegedly attempted to shoot Apostle Dr Stephen Andrews, the church’s pastor, but the weapon failed to discharge despite repeated attempts by the armed intruder to fire.
Video footage shared with the congregation on Sunday captured the chilling moment as Apostle Andrews retreated near his vehicle, narrowly escaping harm.
In a separate incident, police are investigating a break-in and theft at the Baptist Retreat Center in Pares. Sometime between 1 pm on Saturday, November 23, and 7:45 am on Sunday, intruders broke into the facility.
Stolen items included two monitors, agricultural produce, a gas cylinder, and other food supplies from the chapel.
The police are urging anyone with information related to these incidents to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913.
