Police get mixed results in Parish League cricket as Cornelius claims third hattrick

There were mixed results for defending champions Police in the ACB-sponsored Sir Richie Richardson Limited Overs Parish League Cricket Competition over the weekend as the lawmen overpowered Sea View Farm on Saturday before going under to Freetown just one day later.

Police opened on a winning note with a nine wickets triumph over Sea View Farm on Saturday.

Batting first, Sea View Farm were routed for just 75 runs in 17.3 overs with Rolston Philip hitting a top score of 31. Lashorn Barnarde was the top bowler for Police, claiming four wickets for 12 runs, while James Cornelius grabbed three wickets for 13 runs to record his third hattrick in four matches. Derek Mourillon also got in on the action with two wickets for 16 runs.

Police then reached their target at 76 for one in 8.2 overs. Malique Gerald top-scored with 42 not out.

The tables however turned for the lawmen on Sunday as they went under by two wickets to Freetown.

Winning the toss and batting first, Police posted 182 for seven in 34 overs. Vincent Shadrach Jr and Damon Valentine led the way with 48 and 47 runs respectively. Vance Nathaniel was the pick of the bowlers for the winners with three for 44.

When their turn at the crease arrived, Freetown got to their target at 186 for eight in 33.5 overs with Kief Baltimore’s 45 leading the way. Pete Lee chipped in with 35. Lynton Africa led the bowling for Police, claiming three wickets for 38 runs.

There was victory as well for Mahico as they beat Urlings by 30 runs, also on Sunday.

Batting first, Mahico got to136 for eight in 26 overs with J’Quan Athanaze top-scoring with 20. Shawn Bailey Jr bagged three wickets for 21 runs bowling for Urlings. When their turn at the crease arrived, Urlings were all out for just 106 runs.

Daren Dunnah was the pick of the bowlers for Mahico with four wickets for 30 runs while Jaeo Benjamin picked up three for 23. Michael Cornelius snatched two for 10.

Also over the weekend, Mahico defeated Old Road by 46 runs. Batting first, Mahico posted 156 for four in 22 overs with Steven Fane hitting 59 not out.

Old Road were then restricted to 110 in their chase. There were two wickets each for Amos Bruney, Ronaldo Stewart and Dion Samuel.
