Police Draw First Blood, Elites One Win Away From Two-peat

Police Vertex continue to have an impressive run in Division Two of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball League.

After gaining a promotion spot to Division One next season and eliminating the defending playoff champions, Curtain Bluff Old Road Daggers, the lawmen have taken Game One in the best of five finals versus the reigning League champions, Kennedy’s Ottos Coolers.

Playing in the feature match of the double header evening at JSC, the lawmen handed Coolers a 62-56 defeat with national junior player Javon Simon leading the way with 16 points and six rebounds.

Simon was assisted by Dale Gore who netted 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Deandre Punter who sank 11 and snatched 13 rebounds.

Isha Gore also of Police, contributed by scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

Coolers’ Lincoln Weekes had a game high 26 points, six assists and seven steals, while teammate Danny Perez chipped in with 10.

Game Two is scheduled to shoot off on Tuesday at 6:45 pm at JSC.

Defending Division Three playoff champions, Wadadli Eye Mobile Elites find themselves just one win away from hoisting the trophy for the second consecutive year as they edged out F and G Trading Cuties Ovals Ojays III 55-52 in Game Two.

Jevonte Valerie led the victors with 14 points and 13 rebounds while teammates Teran Zachariah and Rhonde Davis contributed netting 11 and 10 points.

Zachariah added an additional seven rebounds and five steals to his tally.

Deon “Harry” Jules was the leading scorer for the Ojays with 15 points and six rebounds while teammate Kevorn Cornwall sank 12.

Game Three is scheduled to shoot off on Monday at 8:30 pm.
