Newbies, Pointe FM, jumped to the top position on the 20-team standings after edging out Dadli Designs 51-50 in their match-up on Saturday night in the Cool and Smooth Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) Business League at the JSC Sports Complex.
Despite a 17-point effort by Felix Hamilton, Dadli Designs could not secure the upset as the young team with the ball in hand could not capitalise in the dying seconds of the match, missing the game- winning shot.
Pointe FM’s, Ndegwa Malone and Selassie Braithwaite, who both netted 11 points for the newbies, allowed them to move to a 12-2 record identical to that of the defending champions, Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board (ABTB).
Dadli Designs now hold a 5-7 record.
Burton’s Laundry bounced back from their upsetting loss to FLOW to defeat newbies, Mill Reef, 56-50, in the first of the quadruple-header evening.
Kentaka Lake proved that age is just a number as the ‘old boy’ led the victors with 16 points.
He was assisted by Bruce Whyte who sank 12.
Mill Reef’s Elliott Samuel was the leading scorer with 16 points while teammate Kacey Williams contributed with 11 points in a losing effort.
Burton’s now move to a 7-5 record.
In the other matches played that night, Anjo’s Wholesale trounced Antigua and Barbuda International Institute of Technology (ABIIT) 92-64, while APUA Water went under to Eye Mobile 81-37.
Sharife Sergeant led the charge for Anjo with 26 points while ABIIT’s Ricky James netted 18.
Zuri Nesbitt sank 17 for Eye Mobile while Iornie Joseph had a game-high 24 points for the water men.
