Principal of the Princess Margaret School (PMS) Dr Colin Greene said his students are prepared to defend both their boys’ and girls’ titles in this year’s Cool & Smooth-sponsored National Inter-schools Track & Field Championships slated for March 10-12 at the YASCO Sports Complex.

Speaking on the Good Morning Jojo Sports Show, Greene said the expectation is always to lift the championship trophy in both categories, but also noted that there’s a wealth of talent spread across the rival schools that could make the task difficult.

“Our expectation is always to go there and do our best, but we don’t ever take anybody for granted. We are respectful of all athletes and all schools but the culture at Princess Margaret School is that they go to Inter-schools and do well. There is a lot of pressure, not just on the athletes [but also] on me because they expect us to deliver in that stead.

“This year, I expect that we should be able to do okay but I won’t come to the air and boastfully say that we are going to dominate every event at Inter-schools because that might not be the case this year, but I think we are going to do well given the talent pool that we have,” he said.

The school recently held its annual sports day activities at the YASCO Sports Complex as it showcased its student athletes to the public and finalised preparations for the big event.

Greene said the event was a success.

“We had very good support from the public and we’re pleased with that because we had a good crowd. We also had the objective of improved performance on the track and we saw that as well taking place where we had two Carifta qualifiers. We had some personal bests as well and we also had some season bests taking place as well. We had some new talents we were able to identify along the way and the alumni turned out in droves. They had a really good time but all in all, the objectives of the meet were achieved,” the PMS principal said.

The Cool & Smooth National Inter-schools Track & Field Championships will start 3pm daily and there’s an admission fee of $10 on all three days.

The event is also powered by Oasis Purified Water, Flow and Anjo Wholesale.
