Prime Minister Gaston Browne will host a press conference on April 30 to officially launch the international concert on plastic pollution to be held in Antigua and Barbuda in June.

Browne will be joined by President of the United Nations General Assembly María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés and Grammy Award singer Ashanti in presenting the “Play It Out” concert.

Also attending the press conference will be the Permanent Representative of Norway to the United Nations, Mona Juul, and the Permanent Representative of Antigua and Barbuda, Walton Webson.

The UN said the governments of Norway and Antigua and Barbuda are major supporters and global advocates of the campaign to tackle plastic pollution.

Antigua and Barbuda continues to seek international support in its efforts to fund a United Nations Anti-Plastic concert on June 1st.

In March, the Cabinet called on the country’s Ambassador to the United Nations to ensure that other countries were supportive of the event after Qatar and Norway pledged financial assistance for the concert.

When the island was chosen to host the Anti-Plastics concert last year, the President of the UN General Assembly stated that it was a result of Antigua and Barbuda’s steadfast commitment to ban plastic bags and other disposable plastic items from the island, creating an anti-plastics environment.

The concert is expected to take place at the Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG) with numerous international artistes performing at the event.
