Bernard Percival Jr has once again created history as the athlete, over the weekend, became the first Antiguan to win at a pro-event in the bodybuilding and weightlifting circuit.
Percival, who gained his pro-status last year, competed in his first event as an IFBB Pro Elite athlete on Saturday, winning the Open Class of the Classic Men’s Physique category at the IFBB Elite Pro Miami Grand Prix at the Ashe Auditorium in Miami, Florida.
The former Sportsman of the Year also walked away with a cash prize of US $2,000.
Teammate and fellow pro-athlete Elvis Bailey, who also competed in the same category, finished eight out of 10 competitors.
Bailey despite the finish Bailey congratulated his teammate Percival in a Facebook post.
“Bernard Percival, the man who has created a legacy for himself. Has become the first athlete I know to win all of his shows which is five shows and made history. I am so proud of this brother. Words cannot express how much I am. Congratulations again on a great job. An inspiration to many.”
This win has qualified Percival to enter the World Championships which will be held in Spain in November of this year.
