The third man who was involved in the car accident which claimed Tyrell Jacobs’ life today, has now been identified.
The police say he is 20-year-old Shakeem Hughes of Swetes and he remains in critical condition at Mount St John’s Medical Centre.
The Head of the Traffic Department Superintendent Leonard Cabral had earlier told OBSERVER media the investigators had difficulty finding out his identity since he was unconscious and had no ID on him.
Thirty-one-year-old Jacobs of Swetes was the driver of the Honda Civic car, A 20602 which was travelling to town along All Saints Road around 12:50 am when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility post.
He was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident which occurred in the vicinity of Lics business place.
Superintendent Cabral said the third man in the vehicle was 21-year-old Javonzo Joseph of All Saints. He is being treated at Mount St John’s Medical Centre for numerous injuries.
Superintendent Cabral said when Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel responded and tried to attend to Jacobs and Joseph, who were both trapped in the vehicle, they sustained minor electrical shocks since some wires had come loose from the utility post.
They had to stop to await the arrival of workmen from the Antigua Public Utilities Authority. It was only after electrical supply was turned off, the rescue was possible.
