Ovals Ojays claim third blowout win as Stingerz route Spanish Heat in Division One basketball

Ovals Ojays continued their fine run of form in the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) Division One competition with a dominant 30 points triumph over Potters Steelers on Sunday at the JSC basketball complex.

Ovals controlled three of four quarters in the game, flying out the gates with a 26-10 first quarter dominance before outscoring Potters 29-6 in the second quarter. Potters narrowed the gap in the third quarter but were still outscored by a slim 16-15 margin. The Potters men found some reprieve in the fourth, winning the final quarter 27-17 as Ovals claimed the contest 88-58.

Joshua Minner was unstoppable on the night for overs, sinking 40 points on 13 of 24 shooting with a field goal percentage of 54. Minner also shot 50 percent (5/10) from beyond the arc while grabbing 14 rebounds. Tavarus Benta and Kareem Edwards both contributed with 11 points.

Cohen DeSouza led the scoring for Potters with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

There was victory as well for Stingerz as they beat Spanish Heat 78-65 for their second win of the competition.

Jayden Andrew and Donte Trimingham were on target for Stingerz, both scoring 17 points with Andrew picking up eight rebounds and Trimingham five. Tequan Brodie had 11 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

In a losing effort, Steven Matthew sank a game-high of 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Spanish Heat.
