One of three men jointly charged for allegedly robbing three elderly persons at the Mill Reef Club two years ago has pleaded guilty to the charge.
Rickardo Bussawan of Villa pleaded guilty yesterday to three counts of aggravated robbery, which occurred on April 6, 2022.
His co-accused, Delon Wills denied the charges, while Marlon Carr is yet to be arraigned.
High Court judge Justice Ann-Marie Smith has set Bussawan’s sentencing hearing for January 17, 2025.
February 3, 2025 is the date set for case management for Wills and Carr and for a trial date to be selected. Carr, of Fort Road, is also expected to plead to the indictment at that time as well.
During the robbery at the exclusive east coast community property, the men are alleged to have tied up and robbed the three elderly persons relieving them of a number of valuables and money.
The Mill Reef Club property is said to be owned by a married couple in their 70s – James and Elizabeth Lewis — who invited a friend over on the day in question.
Reports are that around 10pm the trio was having a conversation under a cabana by the pool when they were reportedly accosted by three masked men who showed up wearing gloves and armed with knives.
The robbers allegedly grabbed the victims from behind and then tied their hands and mouths with duct tape.
The items that they stole from the trio included a black handled chef knife; Iphones; ipods; jewellery valued US $10,000; and a curling iron. The men also made off with over US $1,100 in cash.
Before fleeing the scene they locked the complainants in a bedroom. However, the three were later able to free themselves and immediately reported the matter to the police.
An investigation was launched which led to the men being arrested and subsequently charged.
