Old Road wins Super 8 opener to command Group One

The Old Road Football Club got off to a winning start in Group 1 of the Antigua & Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Wadadli Beer Super 8 Championships on Monday with a convincing 4-0 victory over Willikies.
Playing at the Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG), the former Premier Division champions had goals from Donavan Peart in the third minute, Troy Mellanson in minute six, Albert Barthley in the 45th and Andre Browne in minute 62 to defeat the Second Division runner-ups.
The victory lifts Old Road to the top of Group 1 after SAP and Five Islands played to a scoreless draw in the opening contest.
Action continues Wednesday when Willikies take on SAP at 5 pm and Five Islands face Old Road at 7 pm.
The teams are competing for the $13,000 cash prize up for grabs while the runners-up will take home $6,500 and third place $4,000.
Fourth place finishers will take $3,000 while teams finishing between fifth and eighth will each take home $500.
The tournament is expected to climax on April 2 with third place and championship matches
