Old Road edge out Beach Boys, Elites suffer first loss

The 2018 Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) Division 2 playoff champions Curtain Bluff Old Road Daggers recorded their first win of the season edging out newly promoted Hon Samantha Marshall The Nest Beach Boys 69-61 on Tuesday night.

Playing in Ovals, Daggers – led by speedster Kedar Clark with 17 points and seven rebounds – managed to fend off the near upset by the team hailing from the Bolans area.

Clark was assisted by teammates Kevin Cornwall who sank 16 points and Kelvin “Shugy” Simon who netted 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Kareem Jacobs also chipped in, scoring 13 points.

The Beach Boys’ Tindale Telemaque and Brian Aaron had 22 and 21 points respectively.

Aaron also grabbed 12 rebounds.
In the other match played in Ovals, the home team F&G Trading Cuties Ovals Ojays II thrashed Baldwin Braves II 93-48.

National junior player Delornje Jules led the charge with 38 points and seven assists.

He was assisted by Alexis Jackson who had 13 points and 16 rebounds and Keddy Martin who netted 11 points, snatched six rebounds and had four assists.

Braves’ Tristan Jacobs had 20 points and five rebounds in a losing effort.

Meanwhile, in Division 3 action Wadadli Elite Eye Mobile – last year’s playoff champions – suffered their first loss at the JSC Sports Complex.
Elites were edged out 70-67 by Max Fernandez Gunners.

Shawn Thomas led the victors with an impressive 26 points and 24 rebounds performance.

Nashorn Knowles and Sergio Symister also contributed scoring 13 and 11 points respectively.

Elite’s Rhonde Davis had 22 points and eight rebounds.

In the other match played that night, newbies Fearless Crew defeated CJ Communications Young Warriors 77-48.

Jemanda Richards led the victors with 13 points and five rebounds while Keaney James had a game high 21 points and eight rebounds for Young Warriors.
