The Communications Unit within the Office of the Prime Minister has advised its social media subscribers that it has lost control of its Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, X (Twitter) and Threads services.
The Unit announced that it recently discovered that it’s officers can no longer access and post information to the platforms which have over 20, 000 subscribers.
It says that a mobile handset is believed to have been infected with a malware which made the devise inoperable.
The devise is currently with technicians to ascertain the software used to disable the handset.
The Unit is also in the process of assessing the level of data loss as a number of photo files and word processing documents dating back several years are no longer accessible on the network.
The Unit is currently working with Meta Platforms Inc., to regain access to its social media pages.
The Unit believes that the process will be completed shortly and request the patience of its subscribers.
The Unit is currently utilizing the Government of Antigua and Barbuda YouTube platform (https://www.youtube.com/@GovernmentOfAntiguaBarbuda) and other local social media pages to convey its information to the general public.
