The National Youth Parliament Association of Antigua and Barbuda (NYPAAB) is calling on all young voters in the Constituency of St Peter to actively participate in the upcoming by-election which takes place on Tuesday, January 14.

According to a release from the association, this election presents a unique opportunity for young people to make their voices heard and contribute meaningfully to the democratic process, since youth in Antigua and Barbuda hold the power to shape the future of this nation. By casting votes, citizens assert their roles and show commitment to the development of communities and the nation.

“The upcoming by-election is not just about selecting a representative for St Peter; it is about reaffirming collective belief in the values of democracy, transparency, and good governance,” the release added.

The NYPAAB stated that it remains steadfast in its mission to empower young people to engage in civic and political life. As part of this effort, the association will host voter education initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of voting. Additionally, members of the NYPAAB have given a commitment to visit communities within St Peter to encourage young voters to turn out on Election Day and to remind them that their vote is their voice. First-time voters, particularly those in St Peter, are urged to embrace this opportunity and show that youth are not indifferent but are instead passionate advocates for positive change.

The NYPAAB applauds the efforts of the Electoral Commission and all stakeholders in ensuring a free, fair, and transparent process. The body remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen youth participation in democracy and stands ready to assist in fostering a culture of civic engagement among the nation’s youth. Together, the intent is to make all voices heard.
