There will be very little rest for the members of the Sandals/Inet Grenades FC as they continue preparations for their next fixture in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup slated for September 17 in Trinidad.
Head coach and former player Derrick Edwards, speaking on the Good Morning Jojo sports show for the first time since their opening 2-1 loss to the Dominican Republic’s Cibao FC last week, said the players move straight into preparation for their clash against Trinidad’s Port of Spain FC almost two weeks from now.
“We leave on the 14th for Trinidad. We are going to play a practice game against the national team and we have training for the rest of the days until we are ready to travel so there is no time for rest. We already got three days rest so it’s back to the drawing board again,” he said.
The match will be contested at the Ato Bolden Stadium starting at 6:00pm and is a much win match for the 2023/24 Premier Division champions.
Derrick said the players continue to improve with every clash while drawing from the experience of competing against professional players.
“Playing against better players who are more organized and I think they understand the level and once you understand to play at that level then it’s a good thing for them because you’re playing against players who, that’s all they do for a living and once you know that you can compete with them at that level and know to yourself that you are not really a professional the it speaks volumes so it’s good for them,” he said.
Cibao FC dominated their opening Group B contest against Grenades on August 28 with goals from Jean López and Eddipo Rodríguez on either sides of the half. Sherman Augustin scored the lone goal for Grenades FC.
