Gaston Browne, prime minister, who last week declared that his party had “embraced” Asot Michael, Member of Parliament (MP) for St. Peter, said yesterday that he did without the benefit of any further information on why Michael was arrested in the United Kingdom (U.K.) in October.
“None” is the word Browne used when asked if he had any further information. He was speaking yesterday at the Cabinet’s Report for the year 2017. Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin who was also present, said that the government had made no official effort whatsoever to find out why Michael was arrested beyond the prime minister’s initial October information that the MP was seized amidst a U.K. investigation into bribery. On October 23, a Monday, Michael was arrested in the U.K. and questioned by the Metropolitan Police.
At that time, an official from the U.K. Foreign Office told OBSERVER media that Michael may be charged. In a statement, Michael denied any wrongdoing.
