NGO leaders encouraged not to mix work with politics

Leaders of Non-Governmental Organisa-tions (NGOs) are being encouraged to separate themselves from the organisations if they are desirous of entering politics.
That suggestion was made yesterday by Gordon Bispham, the executive director of the Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC), a Barbados-based coalition of Caribbean non-governmental organisations.
Bispham said that there is a general perception that some NGOs are political parties in waiting and this fact is evident when some leaders eventually move on to become government ministers.
He said that the relationship between an NGO and a politician/political party could become blurred if the lines of demarcation are not clearly defined.
