New Winthorpes Lions were amongst the biggest winners on night two of the Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA) 10 Splash Cricket Tournament as they hammered Empire Nation by nine wickets in the second match of a triple-header on Sunday.

Winning the toss and opting to bat at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, Empire posted 80 for five in their 10 overs with Shane Burton hitting a top score of 15. Jamaual Fernandez was the pick of the bowlers for New Winthorpes as he picked up three wickets for 11 runs in his two overs.

Lions successfully chased down their target in just 8.2 overs, getting to 81 for one. Jermaine Otto was in fine form, hitting two fours and two sixes in his knock of 33 off 23 deliveries.

In the day’s opening contest, Rising Sun Spartans pulled off a comfortable four wicket victory over PIC Liberta Blackhawks.

Batting first after winning the toss, Blackhawks struggled with the bat to post only 53 for nine in their 10 overs. Their best effort came from Joshua Thomas who hit 28 off 16 deliveries. Isiah Burney was the chief wicket-taker, claiming three victims for just two runs in two overs. Stanny Simon and Tassillo Allen each had two wickets.

Rising Sun they cruised to 57 for six in just 8.1 overs. Dario Hodge was 15 not out while Delon Wills contributed with 11 runs. Captain Kofi James was the only bowler of note for the Blackhawks, picking up three wickets for 17 runs in two overs.

Meanwhile, in Sunday’s feature clash, CUB Bethesda Golden Eagles defeated Bolans by 10 wickets to win by the largest margin on the night.

Batting first, Bolans made 60 for six in their 10 overs, their best effort with the bat coming from Tajeja Tonge who made 13. Anthony Martin bagged two wickets for just five runs. When their turn at the crease arrived, Golden Eagles cruised to 61 without loss in 7.4 overs. Deran Benta made 34 off 28 deliveries, while Essan Warner contributed with 11 off 16.
