‘The Baldwin Spencer Sports Complex’ is the name to be given to the sports complex currently under construction at Knuckle Block, Perry Bay.
This was decided yesterday at the meeting of Cabinet, and disclosed last night by government Chief of Staff, Lionel Hurst.
The complex is currently under construction next to the King George V Grounds, by the provision of a grant from China which was negotiated when Spencer was prime minister and representative for the area, St John’s Rural West constituency, under his United Progressive Party regime.
Spencer retired from active politics this year, after 29 years of service in Parliament, including 10 years as Prime Minister.
Hurst says Cabinet looked at his contributions during that period and determined “a monument to Mr. Spencer is warranted.”
