St. John’s, Antigua – The Telecommunications Ministry has set a second date for distribution of hundreds of computer tablets to students.
It’s part of what Minister Dr Edmond Mansoor has dubbed the GATE programme, which aims to ramp up awareness and use of the Internet and Internet enabled devices.
Government had announced that it would give 300 students the devices in November, but that date has now been changed to 16th January.
Dr Mansoor says the final arrangements are underway for what he describes as a spectacular show at Sandals in the middle of the month.
Government and Digicel teamed up to bring really fast Internet technology to Antigua and Barbuda.
And Dr Mansoor says the firm will be spending 72 million dollars providing the devices with L-T-E broadband Internet free to the users for 5 years.
