National volleyballer, Adrian Constant, says he was speechless when he first heard about his latest achievement – named an NAIA All-American Honourable Mention last week.
Constant, who hails from the All Saints community, earned an athletic scholarship to Midway University and since then was named to the First Team All-Conference and was the first-ever All-American in the history of the men’s volleyball program.
“Honestly I’m at a loss for words. I expected to make the all-conference team which I did, but when coach told me that I was named an All-American, I was so shocked, but I am thankful for the award. It feels great because I encountered so many problems from the day I signed my letter of intent.”
Constant led the offensive attack throughout the season for the Eagles as he tallied double-digit kills in all but one of his matches. He collected at least 20 kills in eight matches including a career-high 30 kills against Cumberland (Tenn.) on March 5.
He finished the season with 326 kills as he averaged 4.87 kills per set. He was also very efficient as he committed just 108 miscues in his 648 swings for a .336 hitting clip. Serving wise, he was second on the team with 43 aces as he averaged 0.64 service aces per set.
Defensively, Constant had six matches with double-digit digs which led to him recording six double-doubles. He finished the season with 132 digs – which was second on the team – as he averaged 1.97 digs per set. He also carded 44 total blocks in 2020.
Within the Mid-South Conference, Constant ranks in the top 10 in seven different statistical categories, while he leads the conference in kills and kills per set. Meanwhile, he ranks second in service aces and service aces per set.
Nationally, he ranks third in both total kills and total service aces, while he ranks fourth and fifth in service aces per set and kills per set, respectively. He also ranks 32nd in hitting percentage.
Constant was one of four student-athletes to earn All-American honors from the Mid-South. He helped lead the Eagles to a 9-9 mark in their second season as a program.
