Just one day after sprint queen Joella Lloyd broke the 28-year-national 100m female record, another Antiguan and Barbudan track star has made headlines.

On Sunday, the reigning Sportsman of the Year, Cejhae Greene, finished atop the Men’s 100m dash at the Pure Athletics Sprint Elite meet in the US, clocking a time of 10.02secs.

That time saw him edge out former World champion and Jamaican track star Yohan Blake in the finals.

Both competitors were close crossing the line that officials had to use thousandths of a second to determine a winner giving Greene the edge with a 10.016 breakdown over Blake’s 10.019.

Devin Quinn of RunUXpress was third with a time 10.03secs.

Greene, who is still the only Antiguan or Barbudan to qualify for the upcoming Tokyo Summer Olympics, also dipped under 10seconds at the meet for the first time this season.

In his preliminary heat, the 25-year-old recorded a time of 9.98seconds edging Blake once again by thousandths of second but the time was however above the legal wind limit of 2.0m/s.

Antiguan sprinter Tahir Walsh was also in action at the same meet and finished third in Heat 4 with a time 10.17secs.

The consistency would remain as Walsh, once again, ran 10.17 for 3rd place in the B final.

Later, Walsh returned in the 200 metres to clock 20.89secs for third place in Heat 3.

Once again, this race was so close that it had to be separated by technology. Tony McQuay (USA) representing Pure Athletics and Nigel Ellis (Jamaica) representing MVP also clocked 20.89. The final breakdown read 20.881, 20.883, and 20.890 for McQuay, Ellis and Walsh, respectively.
