Police continue investigations following the discovery of a decomposed body in Swetes, with officials saying that they are not ruling out foul play until their inquiry is complete.

According to police reports, at approximately 5pm on Monday, an area resident discovered the motionless body of a male, in a bushy area near an unoccupied house, and promptly alerted the All Saints Police Station. When officers responded to the scene they found the deceased wearing a T-shirt and boxer shorts.

The probe into the matter expanded as members of the Serious Crimes Unit and Forensics Unit arrived to process the scene. The man was officially pronounced dead at 8:29pm and thereafter, his body was transported to a funeral home.

As of Tuesday morning, investigators remained at the scene conducting a thorough canvassing of the surrounding area. They revealed that the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition.

An elderly man who lives nearby told reporters that he had noticed an unusual odor in the area for approximately a week before the discovery was made.

“I smell things for the whole week,” he explained. “But I was wondering if it’s a dog – dead dog – that somebody throw into the bush there.”

The man, who typically sits outside his home early in the morning, said the scent became more noticeable as the weather got hotter. “Sometimes the scent, if the sun gets really hot, the scent just comes down here,” he said, adding that he had gone to look for the source of the odor but had not found anything at the time.

Following the discovery of the remains, the neighbour also described seeing police vehicles arriving at the scene. He then noticed that officials were wearing masks, presumably due to the condition of the remains.

The dead man’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

“The police are investigating this as a suspicious death until proven otherwise, and the forensics team is working diligently to collect all available evidence,” said police PRO Inspector Frankie Thomas.

Authorities have issued an appeal to anyone with information that might assist in the investigation to contact the All Saints Police Station or the Serious Crimes Unit directly.
