Despite issuing an apology via video to Traffic Officer Jeremiah Clarke for verbally abusing him, motorist Kevin Schulth faced seven charges following the December 28 incident.
On Monday, Schulth appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason and was granted station bail. The Golden Grove resident was formally arrested and charged with insulting language, failure to comply with lawful directions, indecent language, failure to produce a valid driver’s licence, disorderly conduct, and refusal to give his name and address to the officer.
The charges stem from an incident on Long Street when Schulth was being ticketed for a traffic violation. During the exchange, he hurled several expletives at Officer Clarke and refused to present his licence when requested.
Magistrate Wason clarified that Schulth’s apology, which he made in a video claiming to “give disclosure to the world”, does not prevent the charges.
Despite Schulth’s insults, Officer Clarke maintained his composure and professionalism throughout the ordeal, earning him commendation from Chief of Police Atlee Rodney.
The case has been adjourned to March 11 when evidence is expected to be provided to Schulth’s attorney, Andrew O’Kola.
