A 16-year-old boy is said to be in stable condition after he was shot by the owner of Roti King restaurant when caught apparently breaking into the establishment in the wee hours of Monday.

According to reports, an alarm went off at the business place at around 3am. The owner and his son reportedly went to the St Mary’s Street restaurant and found that two males had broken in.

One of the robbers reportedly shouted to the other to shoot the business owner, which prompted him to fire a shot at one of the intruders.

However, it is said that both of the intruders got away on foot but the one who was shot reportedly did not make it very far.

The minor was reportedly shot in his shoulder.

The manager of the establishment, Shira Tahir Nelson, told Observer that she is quite familiar with the mother of one of the intruders but she “cannot blame the mother”.

“The mother came to me this morning and asking to be lenient on her and it’s somebody that we help throughout life. She brings tamarind for us.

“We feel sorry for her … but we will see what we will go through after the police do their investigation,” she said.

She shared that the alleged thieves took “a lot of expensive stuff”, to include drinks, shrimp and tools.

The police are currently investigating the matter.
